Respiratory system
“Inhale…exhale….inhale…exhale”, everyday people breathe air. Air is one of the essential things that we need in our everyday lives. And to take this important air called oxygen into our body, we need to use our respiratory system. Some people abuse the respiratory system by smoking and inhaling toxic substances in their body. And people should avoid these bad habit, we should take care of our respiratory system by covering our moth whenever there is pollution and not inhale these toxic substances.
This picture shows a person with a certain respiratory disease. There are lots of remedies for many respiratory diseases such as medication, mechanical ventilation, Oxygen theraphy, Radio theraphy, surgery and Physiotheraphy.
Our respiratory system has 4 important functions in our body. First is inhalation, it happens whenever we inhale oxygen and other gases from the environment. Expiration helps us to release carbon dioxide out of our body. The system also helps to filter the air that we inhale and also it helps us to talk and make sounds. We can control our breathing phase, as we age our breathing ability lessens which means the older a person is the lesser their respiration. Too much carbon dioxide and high atmospheric pressure affects the rate our breathing.
Respiratory system works with the circulatory and muscular system. When our body inspires oxygen from the environment, it passes to the lungs. In the lungs there are many capillaries which receive the oxygen and passes to the heart. The heart uses the oxygen and changes it to carbon dioxide. For the muscular system, our muscles use the oxygen from the blood to move. When a person running doesn’t have enough oxygen, the person will be out of breath.

Papillomatosis is a malignant disease causes by HPV and it affects the trechea and the larynx. This picture shows the larynx affected by Papillomatosis.
FUN FACTS!!!!
1. We lose half a liter of water a day through breathing.
2. The highest recorded “sneeze speed” is 165 km per hour.
3. The capillaries in the lungs would extend 1,600 km if placed end to end.
4. The breathing rate is faster in woman than man.
5. A person at rest usually breathes between 12-15 times a minute.
6. The lungs are able to float on water since they contain so many air sacs.
7. Our brain cells will be damaged after only a few minutes without ocygen and death will soon follow.
8. An average person breathes in around 11,000 litres of air every day.
9. ”Laughter is the best medicine”, may have some truth. It helps to boost the immune system.
10. Young children laugh for an acverage of 300 times in a day, while for the adults, they laugh for an average of 15-100 times in a day.

Our respiratory system cannot maintain properly with high altitudes. Ed Douglas discusses about Pete Thexton a doctor, which died because of oedema (HAPE). Doctors in Switzerland hope to find risk and some prevention about oedema(HAPE) and why this is also caused by genetic relationships. When a person is above 2500 meters, pressure increases on the blood vessels in the lungs and this causes the fluid go into the alveoli. To prevent this, careful acclimatization can be helpful as a person goes up but this doesn’t mean HAPE cannot occur. At a certain university in Switzerland, they believe that the primary cause of HAPE might be because of the sodium pumps and on 2002, they found out that the activity of sodium pumps are half the cause of HAPE when they observe a patient with asthma. Researchers tested mountaineers, and they found out that mountaineers who suffered HAPE at the past has less PD, which stands for potential difference, at one part of the mucus membrane. Next, the climbers were brought to sea level and most of them were prone to HAPE except for the other 29 climbers who were prone to HAPE. Meausuring the PD only doesn’t relaly help identify the cause of HAPE, but it can help to know the genetic variations and can be used with other tests. But according to one of the researchers, HAPE can be prevented by acclimatization and by using nifedipine. Mountaineers should climb slowly as they go up because their alveoli cannot catch up with the pressure in the lungs and they might rupture right away.

Prayer
Dear Lord,
Thank you for the Respiratory system we have. Thank you that we have clean air to breath, even though we are in the city we still can live with the air we breathe. Unlike in some places in the world, they don’t have clean air so they suffer from the polluted and maybe, poisoned air. Lord I am very thankful for the air I breathe that I can breathe by using my Respiration organs like my lungs and my mouth. Lord please guide the people who suffers from the polluted air they breathe. I hope that they will not get sick or suffer because of that. I hope Lord that somebody will help them and evacuated them from the horrible place. I pray that other people that cause this pollution will the things they do. Amen.
